FLOOD-02

Improve Sewage and Solid-Waste Management Infrastructure

Implementation

Track the efforts of sanitation districts and waste management agencies in the region to improve sewage and solid-waste management infrastructure. Participate in interagency coordination meetings where applicable to identify opportunities for the County to support such efforts.

Benefits: Evaluation and improvement of existing undersized or inadequate sewage and solid-waste management infrastructure could lessen the occurrences of floodwater contamination, thereby reducing the spread of pollution and degraded water quality.

Timeframe: Near term

Status of Implementation

The mission of the Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) is to protect public health and the environment by effectively collecting and treating sewage. Areas of SacSewer's focus include resource recovery, climate change adaptation and system resiliency, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and institutionalizing sustainability in facilities and operations.

Specifically, SacSewer is evaluating the resiliency of the collection system and treatment plant by prioritizing condition assessments and identifying assets vulnerable to direct and indirect impacts of climate change.
