Use Renewable Diesel for On- and Off-Road Fleets

Measure

The County will replace traditional diesel fuel with renewable diesel for all fleet vehicles.

In Progress

Efforts for the measure have begun and some target indicators have been achieved.

Implementation

Establish a procurement policy that sets a goal for renewable diesel purchases and informs County vehicle operators where renewable diesel can be found within the County.

Timeframe: Near term

GHG Reduction Potential: 4,975 MT CO2e per year by 2030

Sectors: Vehicles - On-Road and Vehicles - Off-Road

Target Indicator: 100 percent of diesel purchased annually for on-road and off-road vehicles will be renewable diesel by 2030 (estimated to be 487,267 gallons purchased).

Status of Implementation

In 2022 the County fleet consumed 520,973 gallons of renewable diesel (R99) for on-road and off-road fleet operations.

Total fuel consumption of the County Fleet is over 60 percent alternative, renewable and advanced technology (including hybrids) which results in a total greenhouse gas reduction of approximately 49 percent compared to consumption of the same amount of conventional petroleum-based fuel.
